Help Disability Support

Enhancing the lifestyle, independence & ambitions of people with disability

EXTENDED HOURS FROM OCTOBER 2019

18 September 2019

GIVING LOCALS WITH DISABILITY MORE CONTROL

In response to the requests from people with disability and their families, Help Disability Care (HELP) is pleased to announce it is extending hours at their Mitchelton Hub location from October 2019.

HELP’s Mitchelton site will now be opening its doors from 7am to 7pm, giving parents and caregivers an opportunity to work normal business hours, attend to other family needs, and give participants greater access to more flexible supports.

Historically organisations have been restrained in their opening hours due to funding limitations. However, under the NDIS and the flexibility that this provides, HELP no longer feels constrained or limited in the amount of services it can now offer to families who have previously compromised work and other duties in order to care for loved ones.

This greater flexibility and accessibility also recognises that NDIS participants each have their own needs and aspirations and require choice and control when it comes to accessing services that enhance their lifestyle and independence.

There is also a large group of individuals with disability who work or volunteer during the daytime and who may lack the opportunity to access supports in the evening. HELP recognises this and is now making supports available accordingly.

Another benefit of extending the current hub hours will enable existing participants to engage Help Disability Care as their sole provider should they wish; where previously, two or more providers have been required in order to cover the span of support hours across the day. Extended services will include access to outcomes focussed Allied Health and occupational therapies that are tailored to the needs of each individual and helps them to reach their goals.

Once the extended hours model at Help Disability Care in Mitchelton is operating, the organisation plans to extend this model out across all of their hub sites by the start of 2020.
